Riverton Wolverines Basketball 2006

Riverton is home of the Wolverines. This could very possibly be the greenest team out there this year. The Wolverines don't have any returning starters this year. In fact, the only player coming into the season with varsity experience is Sean Schaub, a six-foot, three-inch senior. Coach Lars Flanagan admits that his Wolverines are "a very young team," but is confident that the boys "have the depth and ability to score. Our success," he adds, "will be determined on the defensive side of the ball." They are still learning what it will take to be successful in the 4A North, and it will be interesting to watch these young men find their game in the upcoming season. Coach Flanagan is looking at Natrona of Gillette to be the toughest teams this year. "[They have] the best returning teams," he says, "Both are deep." Kelly Walsh, too, has an edge this year, with Eric Platt returning. The veteran senior guard averaged 20.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game last year. In the South, "I believe the two Cheyenne Schools will be tough." The players to watch around the state, in Flanagan's opinion, are Eric Platt (who has signed on to play for UW next year), Art Steward, Cameron Smith, James Johnson, and JB Hairston. The Lady Wolverines may be the team to watch next year, with Hall of Fame Coach Al Redman (previously of Wyoming Indian) coaching the Freshman Lady's team. Until then, root for the Wolverines and see what the energy of youth and a passion for the game can accomplish. |
