Spike Robinson,
head coach for the Lander Lady Tigers, anticipates fighting a tough
battle in this year’s basketball season. Last year‘s
West Region Champions aren‘t looking down an easy road to the
state playoffs this year. “Our conference should be very competitive,” he
predicts, “Jackson [is] returning several players, and Worland
[is] looking much stronger due to a good class of sophomores.” Robinson
thinks Powell may be coming back with a slightly weaker team, as
they graduated a strong bunch of seniors last year. Taking all of
this into consideration, Coach Robinson still foresees a “very
respectable season” for the Lady Tigers, “if everyone
stays healthy and if we can rebound,” he qualifies.
Statewide,
Coach Robinson has his eye on the Douglas team, which will be “very
good again.” Also in contention is Star Valley. Wheatland, too, should
have a strong team, as “a great bunch of kids” will be returning
to play again this year. “Buffalo should be better,” Robinson predicts, “and
Thermopolis will be very much improved.”
The Lady Tigers will once again
be lead by veteran player Tahnee Robinson. The three-time All-Conference and
All-State guard averaged 28.2 points, 6.2 rebounds,
and 6.8 assists last season, making her a formidable opponent for even the
best teams on the court. Tahnee just signed on to be a Wyoming Cowgirl
next year.
No doubt her hustle and drive will be sorely missed in Lander. This season
should be a great opportunity to see one of the best players in the
state at work against
some challenging teams, including Worland, Stare Valley, and Jackson.
Joining
Tahnee will be returning starters Cortney Thoren (senior) and Dannielle White
(sophomore). “We are going to play with a mixture of a strong group
of seniors and sophomores,” Coach Robinson reveals. He has a firm foundation
with his sophomores this year; as Freshmen, they went undefeated last season.
With these skilled players working with the seasoned seniors, the Lady Tigers
should have a solid team this season.
The Lady Tigers will be participating in
the prestigious Oil City Classic Tournament in December, where they are likely
to be matched up with Sheridan, the probable
4A pre-season number-one team.
The Lander Lady Tigers finished last season with
a 23-5 overall record, taking
third in state. This will be Spike Robinson’s third year coaching the team.
It should be a great season for you Tiger fans. |
