John "Gabe" Gabrielsen
Interview
If
you are a fan of Wyoming Prep sports, you know the voice of John "Gabe" Gabrielsen.
He's the guy talking himself hoarse, announcing games from around
the state and giving up-to-date information on your favorite teams
every morning at 9:30 on KVOW radio. What you may not realize is
that he is one of the major forces behind WyoPreps dot Com, a web
site devoted to high school sports around the state of Wyoming.
Since it is this web site that inspired the creation of this magazine,
and since he is recognized as one of the foremost authorities on
Wyoming Preps, it only seemed fair that I interview John Gabrielsen
and let him say a word or two about how the 2005-2006 season is
shaping up.
Mary K. Boyle: Several schools have changed conferences
this year. How much of an impact are these
changes having on the standings?
John Gabrielsen: The biggest
impact is the Lyman boys moving down to 2A. They were a very tough
3A
team last year, and will
be one
of the impact teams in their new division. Pinedale was forced
to move up to 3A this year. They would have made a serious
run at the 2A title had they gotten to say, but since they moved
up, they'll battle for a spot at state.

A word from the Publisher
It is with great excitement that I introduce you
to WyoPreps.com. Our magazine and website are dedicated to celebrating
our local
high school athletes and the coaches who encourage and nurture
the talent in each of the kids with whom they associate. High school
sports are indeed unique. Cheering on friends and family at the
football or basketball games are embedded in most of our
memories as some of the best times we had growing up. In a rural
community like ours, every player is known to loyal fans; each
young man or woman is recognized as not only athletes, but individuals
who contribute to our schools and communities.
My staff and I feel
fortunate to have had the expertise and input of John “Gabe” Gabrielsen
throughout this process; no one (in my opinion) knows more about
the goings on in Wyoming
prep athletics than John, and he has been an integral part of bringing
this magazine together. We would also like to extend our gratitude
to the coaches and athletic directors who took time out of their
extremely busy schedules to answer questions, send pictures, rosters,
and a whole variety of information. Without their efforts, WyoPreps.com
wouldn’t have made it off the drawing board. I would personally
like to take this opportunity to thank my dedicated staff and sales
team, all of whom have worked very hard on this project.
This is just the beginning
for WyoPreps.com. We are already looking forward to the March
issue, which will cover the
spring sports.
We will also have a fall issue to spotlight the sports that help
kick off the new school year. And, of course, you can always find
us on the web () for the latest news and scores. Watch for WyoPreps.com
throughout the year for more insight from John Gabrielsen, and
more news on your favorite prep teams.
